Our group is currently the only Ki Aikido dojo in Western Pensylvania accredited by the
international Aikido organization, the Ki Society International, founded by Master Koichi Tohei,
and headquartered in Japan. We also operate under the direction of one of the major regional
Aikido organizations in the nation - the Virginia Ki Society, based in Merrifield, Virginia, a suburb of
Washington, D.C., and its chief instructor - Sensei Chuck Auster (4th Dan). Sensei Auster is one of the few
instructors in the country authorized by the Ki Society International to conduct the full range of promotions
offered by the Ki Society.
Keystone Ki Aikido has been operating as a martial arts club in the Pittsburgh area since its founder, Sensei Richard Miller (Nidan, Chuden, Assistant Ki Lecturer), began instructing in 1985 and has been affiliated with the Ki Society since 1994. The club was authorized as a Ki Society dojo in 1994 by the late Sensei George Simcox, Chief Instructor VKS. Under Sensei Miller's direction, the club has grown to become one of the larger dojos in the VKS
In May 2004, Miller Sensei retired after nearly 4 decades of training and teaching aikido. Subsequent to his retirement Auster Sensei appointed Brian Chorba Sensei (Shodan, Jokyu, and Assistant Ki Lecturer) as the Head Instructor of Keystone Ki-Aikido.
In 2006 Rob Broman Sensei (Shodan, Jokyu, and Assistant Ki Lecturer) was appointed as Head Instructor of Keystone Ki-Aikido.
Today Broman Sensei along with his staff of Instructors (Frank Thomas and Jay Hartman), oversee all of the Aikido, Ki Development, Weapons Training, Ki Breathing/Meditation, and Taigi Instruction at Keystone Ki-Aikido.
